A Few Weeks Into My HubPages.com Experiment
64The Experiment
A few weeks ago, I announced on my blog 20smoney.com that I would be launching a new online income experiment with the intentions of determining how effective it is to write for HubPages with the goal of generating online income.
You see I have serious goals on generating online income. Currently, I am earning approximately $500 from my blogs and websites, with most of it coming from my main blog mentioned above. A part of the journey is experimenting with other resources and strategies. Thus, my HubPages writing experiment.
Where I Am Currently
As of writing this Hub, I am off to a good start. I realize that to determine the potential of HubPages with any level of certainty, I have to give this a real shot, with real effort. So, in just a few weeks, I have accomplished the following:
- 23 hubs created
- A HubPages score of 84 (fluctuates daily in the mid to high 80s)
- A few clicks on my Adsense ads to earn a few bucks maybe at the most
Not a bad start. I've stated from the beginning that I probably need to write at least 50 hubs to get a general sense of the income potential here at HubPages.
My Current Thoughts
So far, my traffic has been fairly minimal since I don't exactly have a huge following here on HubPages. Also, it seems that most of the traffic comes from search engines, which is great, but that means you're very dependent on your targeted keywords within your Hub.
So, if I'm dependent on search engine traffic, it would make more sense for me to write such articles on my own blog since I get 100% of the ad clicks on my own blog - assuming the same amount of traffic. If this is true, and I'll continue to monitor and think on this, then this is a big negative against Hubpages. Although, at the same time, I can write about random topics here at HubPages that might not be appropriate for say my finance blog.
I could see an increase in traffic if my popularity or stature on HubPages increases and I get visits from other Hubbers that are following me. However, I doubt that these folks will click my ads (ad clicks tend to come mostly from search traffic).
So, is HubPages really the place for online income?
Maybe, maybe not. I haven't given up yet.
Lastly, I could see a potential benefit of continuing to develop my HubPages presence, get some page rank assigned to my profile page and link out to my other sites. A nice quality back link is always great, but it might require a ton of work to get there.
Looking For More Resources & Insight
While I continue this experiment, I'm looking for more insight and resources from others who are trying to make money on HubPages. It is incredibly tough to find detailed, objective information. Anything you find on making money with HubPages typically tells you that it's great and you need to do it (in an effort to sign you up).
If you have some information you can point me to, please leave a comment!

Hi there, like you, I have also just started a hubpages experiment. I've read a few articles which suggest putting serious effort on this could have a good result. I specifically like your point about linking your hubs to your own blogs, it seems a very good way to get traffic once your up and running. For your own interest, I compiled (in one of my first hubs) a few good ways, which are free, to get traffic onto your own blogs, so have a look: http://chuckbl.hubpages.com/hub/earningmoneyfromyo
Hope you find it useful and please let me know how you get on etc.
I am new here and I shall post my results after some time.
You've now been at it a long time. Where is the update? Did you die?
