Fantasy Baseball 2010 Week 1 Recap
63
As any fantasy baseball fan would say, it's great to have the season under way. The first week is great no matter how your team performed, because hey, baseball has started! The first week had some great moments. When it comes to fantasy performance, let's get right into it.
Batting Studs
The MVP of week 1 has to be Albert Pujols who hit 4 home runs (2 games of 2 HR's each), along with 10 RBI. Pujols is a stud, we all know that. Let's get to some other not-so-obvious guys.
Nelson Cruz started off the year with a bang and rewarded those who drafted him despite the skepticism that surrounded him. He also hit 4 home runs matched with 9 RBI.
Two Blue Jays players rounded out the 4 HR for week 1: Vernon Wells and Alex Gonzalez.
On the speed front, two players started off the year with 4 stolen bases each: Scott Podsednik and Rajai Davis.
In terms of all around performance, the following players had weeks worth mentioning:
- Matt Holliday - 8R, 3HR, 6RBI, 1SB, .450
- Placido Polanco - 8R, 1HR, 8RBI, .481 - anyone need a second basemen?
- Chris Young - 4R, 3HR, 11RBI, .292
Pitching Studs
Lincecum and Halladay started the week off with 2 stellar starts each. Each had 2 wins, 17 K's and ERAs under 2. Simply fantastic.
After a rough outing, C.C. Sabathia followed it up with a close no-hitter - he held it into the 8th inning.
Other great outings came from Jorge De La Rosa and Hiroki Kuroda (who is undrated in many leagues).
On the closer front, Jon Rauch had 4 saves last week and Capps & Frasor each had 3. Not your typical big name closers. More proof why drafting high end closers is not the best strategy.
On the other side of the spectrum, Frank Francisco of Texas blew 2 saves in spectacular fashion and has already lost his job.
That's it for week 1! Look for more next week.
