Survivalism 101 - Making A Survival Plan
62Getting On The Same Page
Getting you and your family on the same page when it comes to preparedness and specific survival plans is a crucial component of your family planning and preparation. For example, have you ever considered the following questions:
- How will your family react to an unexpected emergency or disaster?
- If your communication is cut off, how would you get a hold of your family members?
- Is your family on the same page should an emergency occur?
These are important questions and for most people, they are probably questions never even considered. Unprepared families face some potentially terrible consequences in an emergency if plans and preparations have not been made ahead of time.
Plan for Various Scenarios
It is crucial to have specific plans for various scenarios. For example, what is your step-by-step game plan for you and your family in the event of a major hurricane? Or a terrorist attack? Or maybe an economic event?
Do your children or spouse know exactly what to do? It might mean an evacuation. It might mean coming straight home from other places around town. It might mean calling certain other family members that you are responsible for.
Write Them Down
Have a family meeting and explain that you want to have in place some emergency plans for the family. Allow input from your family members and then write down the plans.
After writing down the plan, maybe do some dry-runs or run-throughs of your plans. If you have kids, offer them some creative incentives to take it seriously. This is important stuff!
