Survivalism & Preparation with Children
62Factoring In Kid's Needs
Preparing for uncertainty and potential emergencies in the future takes a good amount of work and planning. Adding kids, especially little children into the equation, adds another whole dimension. If you have a family, it's important to make plans for your children as well.
Planning For Kids Is Different
Unfortunately, being prepared for children is different than being prepared for adults. One big area is clothing. Young kids outgrow their clothing quickly, which means if you want to be prepared for years out, you will need future anticipated sizes of clothing. This includes your normal clothes and things like shoes, socks, jackets, etc.
If you have a baby or a child with a special diet, this is also a major consideration. You might stock up on formula if you have a baby or if you're expecting a baby. Diapers, bottles, baby wipes are all items that you need for babies.
Teaching Your Kids
Getting your children prepared for uncertain scenarios also includes teaching them skills and helping them be ready for a change of lifestyle. You can make this fun and challenging. Done the right way, your kids will love it!
For example, maybe you can do fun activities like a night camping in the back yard. You can sleep in a tent together and cook food over a fire. Take the opportunity to explain the incredible modern conveniences such as air conditioning, power, refridgerators, etc. that we take for granted and might not always be available. Encourage them by letting them know that if things change, everything will be ok because you are prepared!
Teaching your kids survival topics can be a very rewarding experience that includes some great quality family time together. Talk to your spouse and think of some fun activities you can all do together in the near future.
